Hyperemesis Gravidarum (HG) | HER Foundation
"I thought I was being weak; many women endure morning sickness during pregnancy. Unfortunately it wasn't weakness, but illness. I had Hyperemesis Gravidarum. After the birth of my baby, I became determined to help other sufferers of this awful pregnancy disease. I was lucky to have a healthy baby throughout my entire pregnancy. Other women who don't have adequate care or access to medications aren't always as lucky. Much more research on HG is necessary and money is needed to make this happen." -Jennifer Subrin
Towards the end of her first trimester, MeMe founder, Jennifer Subrin, was diagnosed as having Hyperemesis Gravidarum. With a 6% drop in bodyweight and unable to swallow even a pre-natal vitamin, she was admitted to a hospital for three days of intravenous rehydration and medication.
Although the hospital care staved off additional serious medical conditions resulting from HG, such as gall bladder disease, diabetes, and fetal mortality, it did little to improve her debilitated state. The remainder of her pregnancy involved frequent ultrasound imaging to monitor fetal wellness, visits to various pregnancy medical specialists, a second hospital stay, and the trauma and anxiety brought on by taking Reglan and Zofran - extremely expensive medications used to help meet her minimum nutritional requirements.
HG is a potentially life-threatening pregnancy disease. The HER Foundation (Hyperemesis Education & Research foundation) provides education & support for mothers suffering from Hyperemesis Gravidarum and those who care for them.
MeMe has created the HERon bodysuit and organic cotton tee shirt to raise money for the HER foundation. A portion of the profit from the sales of garments with this design goes directly to the foundation to help fund research and to provide support to women suffering from HG. We thank you for your support.
